The main sellers of the existing Gear have axed the price in anticipation of a reboot

The Galaxy Gear smartwatch from Samsung didn't have many adopters, because it failed to be “amazing,” as some would say, and was only compatible with less than a handful of phones, all of them from Samsung. The new one might not have those problems though.

Well, that's what everyone is hoping for anyway, although Samsung is unlikely to make it capable of syncing with smartphones from competing brands.

Still, it would not be remiss of the Galaxy Gear 2, or whatever the watch will be called, to work with more devices than just the one or two latest phones from the company.

Anyway, Samsung itself hasn't exactly confirmed plans to release the reboot in the next two weeks, but Best Buy and AT&T are doing their best to use up remaining stocks of the Gear.

How? By cutting the price by $100 / €73. Well, that's what AT&T did anyhow, while some of the color options are on fire sale at Best Buy as well.

Oatmeal Beige, Rose Gold, Lime Green, and Orange should be $149 / €109 cheaper than the original price, but the rest of the watches have gone through a price cut too, of $50 / €37.

Many feel it's a real shame that so little came of Samsung's ever so enthusiastic product release at IFA 2013.

After all, the Galaxy Gear didn't just display the time, but it also allowed to you make calls, take photos and videos, and run a number of apps on-board.

It was, in other words, more than a mere extension of the smartphone, or was supposed to be. Sadly, its prospects were ultimately killed by the very low number of potential buyers. Samsung was going to extend compatibility to other phones with Bluetooth 4.0, but maybe it has decided to wait for Galaxy gear 2 to do that.

Mobile World Congress (MWC 2014) is just a week away, so we'll probably get all our questions answered then.
