Normally, watches wouldn't sell through carriers, but AT&T is making an exception for the Samsung Galaxy Gear, just like it will probably do for the Sony Smartwatch 2 when the time comes.

The carrier should have started accepting orders for the product by now, since today was the big day (see the AT&T Twitter page).

The cash will have to really flow though, because it's not cheap: $299 / €224 – €299.

Galaxy Gear is an interesting piece of work. It was made as a companion to the likes of Galaxy Note 3 and other Samsung phones, and maybe Android phones from other brands. To that end, it can pick up calls via Bluetooth (you talk to your wrist), shoots photos and videos, runs apps, etc.

Actually, it can work on its own too when opening, say, fitness apps.

AT&T will probably start shipping the Gear only after the Galaxy Note 3 phone.
