Available for pre-orders since last week, the Galaxy Fit S5670 has been officially launched in India

Announced via Facebook, the entry-level Android-based smartphone can be purchased for 12,860 INR (roughly $285) without a contract.

However, the handset is also available at a considerably cheaper rate on Flipkart, an Indian independent online retailer, where customers can purchase the Galaxy Fit for only INR 10,400 (about $230).

The smartphone follows other Android mid-range devices that were previously launched on the Indian market such as Galaxy Ace, Galaxy Pop and Galaxy 5.

Samsung Galaxy Fit was announced back in January along with Galaxy Ace, Galaxy Gio and Galaxy mini.

All four devices expand the Galaxy family and are intended to maintain the Korean manufacturer's leading position for Android devices sold per year.

The device has been showcased at the 2011 Mobile World Congress along with the entire Galaxy S lineup.

Samsung’s latest offering for Indian mobile phone users runs Android 2.2 Froyo and is powered by a 600 MHz processor.

The device sports a 3.31-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors support and 240 x 320 pixels resolution.

Those looking for a low-cost Android device with an average camera won't be disappointed by the Galaxy Fit, as the device packs a pretty good 5-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus and video recording capabilities (QVGA@15fps).

Unfortunately, taking snapshots in darker environments won't be possible as the camera lacks a LED flash.

The device is also stuffed with a wide range of multimedia features such as Stereo FM radio with RDS, MP3 music player and video player.

When it comes to connectivity, the Galaxy Fit excels as it comes with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, as well as USB support.

Storage space won't be a problem for users, as the phone ships with 160MB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 32GB with the use of a microSD memory card.
