Following a great deal of rumors on what was said to be a premium flavor of the Galaxy S5, new reports on the matter suggest that Samsung might actually plan on releasing the device as part of a brand-new series of handsets, called Galaxy F, and a new photo with the first in the series is now available.

The handset was spotted online before, featuring about the same looks as the Galaxy S5, but a different design for the back plate, and the newly leaked image confirms that there are some changes between the two.

This premium device is expected to arrive on the market with a 5.3-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a Quad HD (1440 x 2560 pixels) resolution, which will not only make it larger than the Galaxy S5 but will also offer a better viewing experience to its users.

Moreover, rumor has it that the new device would feature a quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, while packing a 16-megapixel camera on the back, with Optical Image Stabilization.

Basically, Samsung Galaxy F should hit the market as a higher-end version of the Galaxy S5, which would make it a bit more appealing than the current flagship, and which would also allow Samsung to better compete against LG’s G3 smartphone.

As PhoneArena (which published the new photo with the Galaxy F, along with other two images, available below) notes, Samsung is undoubtedly interested in the release of this handset, especially due to the availability of LG G3, but for other reasons as well.

The HTC One M8 could be one of them, courtesy of its great build quality (an all-Aluminum body). LG G3, on the other hand, dominates Galaxy S5 due to a 5.5-inch Quad HD screen and 3GB of RAM inside the 32GB model.

Provided that it is real, Samsung Galaxy F is meant to address all these by packing a higher resolution screen and a metal-brushed outer design. The latter is confirmed in the aforementioned leaked photo.

One thing that remains to be seen is when exactly the new handset will arrive on the market. Previous rumors pinned its launch in the first half of the year, but Samsung does not appear ready to make it official as of now.

According to PhoneArena, Galaxy F is now expected to be announced sometime in September, around the same time as Apple’s new iPhone 6. However, with IFA 2014 taking place in Berlin in early September and with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 said to make an appearance there, we’ll see whether the company will release two flagship devices at the same time.
