Samsung is preparing for the Galaxy S6 unveiling, but that doesn't mean that its smartphone business should be on hold until March 1.

The South Korean company introduced new smartphones in various countries this month, including the Galaxy Core Prime 4G, which was recently announced in India.

Today, US-based carrier Verizon confirmed that Samsung Galaxy Core Prime would be available through its official retail channels as well.

The smartphone will be up for online purchase beginning February 26 for only $29.99 (€26) with a new two-year agreement. The Galaxy Core Prime will hit shelves in Verizon's brick and mortar stores on March 5. It will also be available for $8 (€6) a month on Verizon Edge for those who qualify.

The smartphone is powered by KitKat but will receive a Lollipop update

Samsung Galaxy Core Prime is a mid-range smartphone. The bad news is that it will come with Android 4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box, but on the positive side, Samsung confirmed it would offer an Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

Still, judging by how late Verizon delivers major Android updates, it might take a while until Samsung's promise becomes reality.

As a mid-range Android smartphone, the Galaxy Core Prime is equipped with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

Furthermore, Samsung Galaxy Core Prime sports a 4.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports WVGA (480 x 800 pixels) resolution.

The smartphone is powered by a 2,000 mAh battery and is fully compatible with Verizon's XLTE network. On the back, Galaxy Core Prime features a 5-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus and LED flash, while in the front there's a secondary 2-megapixel camera for video calls and selfies.

Software-wise, the smartphone comes with Advanced Calling 1.0, which allows users to take advantage of HD Voice Calling. It also comes packed with various modes for the camera like Best Photo.
