This week, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung officially announced the availability of its new Samsung Galaxy Core 2 smartphone on the market in India, and the handset is already up for grabs in the country.

In fact, the phone was made available for purchase in India before Samsung’s formal announcement, but all is official now, and users can see the phone both at retailers and on Samsung’s own website, as AndroidOS reports.

Initially spotted at Infibeam with a price tag of Rs. 11,955 attached to it, Samsung Galaxy Core 2 emerged on the mobile phone maker’s own portal priced a bit lower, at Rs. 11,900 ($198/€147), which suggests that other retailers might also release it, maybe even cheaper.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the device was made official only several weeks ago with a 4.5-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a WVGA resolution, as well as with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor inside.

Galaxy Core 2 sports only 768MB of RAM, which should deliver pretty decent performance capabilities, though nothing outstanding, that’s for sure.

Moreover, the mobile phone features 4GB of internal memory, as well as a microSD memory card slot for storage expansion purposes.

On the back, the handset has a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and full HD video recording capabilities, which has been paired with a VGA front camera for making video calls while on the go.

The hardware specifications list of this device also includes 3G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, along with a built-in GPS receiver and the usual set of sensors. Moreover, Galaxy Core 2 is powered by a 2000mAh battery.

Samsung launched the new smartphone with Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat operating system loaded on top right from the start, but also added its own set of exclusive apps and customizations to it.

“With the launch of Galaxy Core 2, Samsung Electronics has reinforced its commitment to offer latest technology to its customers at an affordable price,” Asim Warsi, vice president – Marketing, Mobile & IT at Samsung India, said.

“With Galaxy Core 2, we offer powerful performance, intelligent features, and refined designs for an exceptional smartphone experience. The Galaxy Core 2 is the perfect device for users who want an optimal mix of style, portability and power. We are confident that the Core 2 will help us augment our existing market share in the INR 10,000-15,000 price range.”

When launched a few weeks back, Samsung Galaxy Core 2 was accompanied by three other new phones from Samsung, namely Galaxy Ace 4, Galaxy Young 2, and Galaxy Star 2, all of which are expected to land in India sooner or later.
