Good news for Samsung fans, as the South Korean company plans to introduce the sequel to one of its older models, the Galaxy Beam.

Codenamed Samsung SM-G3858, the smartphone has been recently in China at TENAA, Engadget reports. The device is tagged with carrier's China Mobile branding, which indicates this might be one of the new Galaxy Beam's destinations in the not so distant future.

The old Samsung Galaxy Beam was a mid-range Android smartphone that packed a pico projector, which was pretty rare for a mobile phone.

Unfortunately that wasn't enough for the Galaxy Beam to become popular among Android users, which is probably one of the reasons Samsung has decided to make a better job with its sequel.

According to the documents filed at TENAA, the next Galaxy Beam smartphone will be powered by Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box.

That's nothing short of surprising given Samsung's determination to bring a higher quality Galaxy Beam model on the market, and the fact that it will ship with an old version of Android does not help at all.

The insides of the phone's are a bit more decent as opposed to its software. Samsung SM-G3858 has been confirmed to be packed with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, which might be provided by MediaTek or Qualcomm.

The phone's CPU is complemented by 1GB of RAM and an unknown amount of storage. Regardless, the smartphone features microSD card slot for memory expansion up to 32GB, so it doesn't really matter if the new Galaxy Beam sports either 4GB or 8GB of internal memory.

Unlike the older model that features a 4-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display, the new Galaxy Beam will come with a 4.66-inch QVGA capacitive touchscreen display. Sadly, it appear that the screen will offer the same 800 x 480 pixels resolution.

It is also worth mentioning, Samsung SM-G3858 is only 11.6mm thick as opposed to the older model that measures 12.5mm.

Connectivity-wise, the new Samsung Galaxy Beam is confirmed to offer 3G support, but there doesn't seem to be any indications that it might come with LTE connectivity as well.

Still, Samsung may launch the new Galaxy Beam in other countries with LTE in tow, though this has yet to be confirmed. No other details on the unannounced smartphone have been unveiled, but we expect the device to go official in the next couple of weeks.
