Soon, maybe as soon as the next week, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics should make official its first smartphone to feature a metallic body (at least part of it), and the device appears to have received the necessary FCC approvals.

The handset will supposedly arrive on the market under the name of Samsung Galaxy Alpha, and might be officially announced on August 13, should the latest reports on the matter pan out.

In the meantime, however, the device appears to have passed through the FCC certification process with model number SM-G850F attached to it.

The listing also suggests that the upcoming handset will be smaller than the Samsung Galaxy S5, given that it measures 133 x 67mm, which fits perfectly with the previous reports on the matter, as PhoneArena notes.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha was rumored before to arrive on shelves with a 4.8-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a 720p resolution.

The one thing that said listing does not reveal is how slim the new mobile phone will be. However, recently leaked photos with it have suggested that it will be thinner than the iPhone 5s (it might is less than 7mm thick).

The Samsung SM-G850F has emerged at the FCC with Bluetooth 4.0 LE, NFC, and dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity inside, as well as with support for LTE (bands 2 and 5) networks.

As it turns out, this handset might not be aimed at the United States in the end, though it should still offer compatibility with the networks operated by AT&T and T-Mobile.

Rumor has it that the new smartphone will arrive on the market with an octa-core Exynos 5433 processor, which should be paired with 2GB of RAM.

However, chances are that a Snapdragon variant of the device will also be released, as Galaxy Alpha was rumored not long ago to arrive in South Korea with LTE-A capabilities inside.

Moreover, it should sport a 12-megapixel camera on the back, supposedly capable of recording videos at least in Full HD resolution. A heart rate sensor is also expected to be present in the package.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha should be running under the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system right from the start, though it will also feature various customizations and exclusive apps coming from Samsung itself, that’s for sure.

As mentioned above, the South Korean handset vendor is expected to make the new mobile phone official on August 13, and all the necessary details on the device and on its capabilities should be revealed then, so stay tuned.
