It’s no secret that Samsung plans to provide Android users looking for premium smartphones a few more alternatives. The Galaxy A family is Samsung’s series of premium Android smartphones, but for the time being only one device is available for purchase, the Galaxy Alpha.

This is about to change in the coming weeks when Samsung is expected to launch at least three new Galaxy A smartphones: the A3, A5 and A7.

They are also known as Samsung SM-A300, SM-A500 and SM-A700, but they will certainly be released under different marketing names.

There has been lots of info on the upcoming Galaxy A smartphones, but none coming through official channels. This time the folks over at MySamsungPhones spotted one of the three smartphones supposed to be launched soon, at TENAA, the Chinese regulatory commission.

Samsung Galaxy A3 has just passed TENAA’s certification, which means it’s ready to go official within the next few weeks. It’s unclear whether or not the smartphone will be initially launched in China and South Korea, but we suspect it will definitely be rolled out internationally by the end of the year.

The Galaxy A3 is said to be the cheapest smartphone in this family and the name seems to sustain this speculation. It is supposed to sell for around $350 – $400 (€275 - €315) outright, rumors claim.

Even if it will be an affordable premium smartphone, Samsung Galaxy A3 is likely to pack decent specs. In fact, the documents filed at TENAA contain most of the smartphone’s hardware configuration, and at first glance it looks like this will be a mid-range Android handset.

Samsung Galaxy A3 is expected to be released in Q4 2014

Speaking of which, the Galaxy A3 and two other Galaxy A smartphones will ship with Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box.

The handset will be equipped with a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, an Adreno 306 graphics processing unit and 1GB of RAM.

The Galaxy A3 will only pack 8GB of internal memory, which is why Samsung added a microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 64GB).

On the back, the upcoming mid-range handset will feature an 8-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, while in the front there’s a 5-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.

The device has also been confirmed to sport a 4.52-inch OLED capacitive touchscreen display that supports 540 x 960 pixels resolution.

The listing at TENAA also mentions the Galaxy A3 measures 130.1 x 65.5 x 6.9mm and that it weighs exactly 112g (battery included). Samsung Galaxy A3 is expected to be released on the market in Q4 2014, but stay tuned for more info on the matter.
