A new handset from Samsung has made an appearance on online benchmark websites, namely the Samsung GT-I9500, which is said to be the company’s reference design handset for the Tizen OS.

The handset was spotted in the AnTuTu benchmark with a quad-core 1.5GHz processor packed inside, and with a score of 12,585 next to it.

However, the handset was powered by Google’s Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich when tested, and not by the upcoming Tizen OS.

It’s surprising that the company decided to load the Android platform on this device for testing purposes, yet we should not forget that Samsung also loaded its Galaxy S III smartphone with Tizen not too long ago.

There’s no telling on whether the new smartphone will be actually released on shelves, yet more details on it should emerge soon, so stay tuned.
