One of the most popular Android smartphones available on the market, the Samsung Galaxy S II is about to make its debut in China. However, this is a different version of the smartphone that will only be available in the Mainland.

Initially, the phone was spotted on the Glbenchmark website under an unknown codename, Samsung GT-I9070. The folks over at AndroidOS did some detective work and found out more about the smartphone’s specs sheet.

Unlike the standard Galaxy S II, Samsung GT-I9070 is powered by a slightly lower 1GHz dual core processor, which is complemented by a Mali-400 graphics processing unit.

Furthermore, it appears that the phone’s CPU is not manufactured by Samsung, instead the GT-I9070 runs on an ST-Ericsson NOVATHOR U8500 mobile chipset.

According to the phone’s Agent Profile, Samsung GT-I9070 features Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support and received its interoperability certificate. In fact, AndroidOS notes that the phone was listed at Bluetooth SIG since August, which indicates that this is a real device that should be announced soon.

More details on the Samsung GT-I9070 have been discovered by the guys over at ameblo.jp who confirmed the Galaxy S II variant would be released in China in early 2012.

They also revealed more details on the smartphone’s specs sheet, such as a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, autofocus and video recording capabilities, as well as a secondary front-facing camera for video calls.

In addition, the phone is said to weigh only 110g (battery included). It features 6GB of internal memory, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Samsung GT-I9070 runs Google’s Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread operating system, but it might receive the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade.

The folks at AndroidOS have also been tipped on the phone’s DLNA test certificate, which further confirms without any doubt that the Samsung GT-I9070 will soon make it to the market.
