Samsung GALAXY Tab, the 7-inch Android-based Tablet PC the South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics announced officially last month, is set to arrive on shelves with a touchscreen display protected by the Corning Gorilla glass solution.

Samsung announced the GALAXY Tab officially in early September, unveiling the fact that it would come with a seven-inch durable, thin touchscreen display, which is enabled by using Corning Gorilla glass as a cover glass too.

The GALAXY Tab maximizes the joy of e-reading, web browsing, watching videos and movies, and listening to music while on the move,” B.J. Kang, senior manager of Product Planning of Samsung Electronics, said.

“It has innovative functions and advanced characteristics in display, and Corning's Gorilla glass has enabled GALAXY Tab to combine best-in-class technologies in mobility and toughness.”

According to Corning Incorporated, it enjoys extensive expertise in the field, with a tradition of more than 150 years of innovation in materials science and technology.

The Corning Gorilla glass comes to the market as a alkali-aluminosilicate thin-sheet glass that is environmentally friendly, and which was developed specifically as a cover glass for displays in notebook PCs, televisions, and mobile phones.

Corning Gorilla glass is already included in a number of more than 225 mobile devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S, and is seen as a great option for newer smart devices courtesy of its scratch and damage resistance.

“We are pleased that consumers recognize the benefits of Corning's Gorilla glass in their IT products," said Haeng Hee Lee, president of Corning Korea Company Ltd.

“Consumers are enjoying IT display products with more durability through the application of Corning's Gorilla glass. We strive to deliver new technologies that help our customers gain a competitive edge in the global market place.”

According to some of the latest reports on the mobile market, products like slates, mobile Internet devices and the like should enjoy impressive growth in the following few years, with most of them boasting touchscreen displays.
