Rumors on the upcoming availability of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for Samsung Galaxy S III are still roaming the Internet. According to the latest hearsay, Samsung was supposed to launch the update soon after IFA 2012 trade fair, back in late August.

Unfortunately, the South Korean company did not mention any exact release dates for the hotly-anticipated update though it did mention Samsung Galaxy S III devices will get the upgrade by the end of the year.

Well, it looks like the rollout of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for Galaxy S III has just started as Samsung officially announced owners in South Korean can now upgrade their devices.

Even though the update is only available for the SHW-M440S variant, which is exclusively available in South Korea, this is a clear indication that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will soon be rolled out globally.

Although the official announcement mentions the update is available for download via Samsung Kies 2.0 desktop software, it’s likely that Galaxy S III will also be able to upgrade their devices OTA (over the air).

Among the changes included in the update, Samsung mentions the usability improvements to the home screen, along with some application performance enhancements. Several new features have been included as well, while others have been improved.

There’s an easy mode and a block mode available now, as well as a new ability that allows users to pause movies during recording. The camera features have been improved with the addition of a smart rotation capability.

Keep in mind that while the update will keep the phonebook, messages, photos and other user data, some info stored on the phone may be lost during the upgrade process.

This Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update requires 100MB of internal memory, so make sure you have enough storage prior to upgrade.
