Samsung’s third-generation Galaxy S smartphone has landed in India. The Galaxy S III is now available for purchase in the country for no less than Rs 43,180 (765 USD or 620 EUR) off-contract.

In addition, eligible Vodafone customers who purchase the device will also receive 3GB of mobile data for free, for the next two months.

Unlike the Canadian version that comes with 2GB of RAM and 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, the Indian variation packs only 1GB of RAM and an Exynos 1.4GHz quad-core CPU, which is complemented by a Mali-400MP GPU.

Moreover, the smartphone only features HSPA+ (21Mbps) support, whereas the Canadian models will be shipped on June 20 with LTE and/or HSPA+ (42Mbps) support.

However, other specs seem to be similar, including the large 4.8-inch Super AMOLED (PenTile) capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720 x 1280 pixels) resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 2 coating for extra protection.

The smartphone may pack 16, 32 or 64GB of internal memory, though Samsung confirmed it would initially launch the 16GB model in India. The 64GB is planned for year’s end, but the company did not offer an exact release date.

On the back, Samsung’s rich feature packed Galaxy S III boasts an 8-megapixel photo snapper, which features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording. There’s also a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls.

Software-wise, the Galaxy S III is powered by Google’s latest Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system integrated with the company’s proprietary TouchWiz UI 4.0, known as Nature UX.

Furthermore, the device is packed with lots of innovative apps and services, including Samsung Music Hub, S Voice, S Beam, Direct Call, Smart stay and other.

According to Samsung, the phone’s 2100 mAh Li-Ion battery should provide up to 24 days of standby time (33 days in 3G mode) or up to 22 hours of talk time (12 hours in 3G mode).
