Australian mobile phone carrier Telstra will make available for purchase on its airwaves the high-end Samsung GALAXY S II smartphone as of July 26th.

The handset was already known to be on its way to the Australian market on the airwaves of Telstra after being released through Optus and Vodafone as well, but no specific info on the release date emerged until now.

The smartphone comes with a 1.2GHz dual-core application processor inside, and with a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display, while running under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system.

It also includes support for HSPA+ connectivity, which makes it a great addition to Telstra's offering, as it will be able to deliver increased data transfer speeds in capital cities and selected areas on the carrier's network.

“Teamed with the Telstra Next G network, our customers will be able to enjoy mobile web speeds up to twice as fast as those available on non HSPA+ networks in all capital cities and selected areas,” the company notes.

Galaxy S II customers will also be among the first to benefit from the clarity of HD voice calling which was recently launched on our network and is enabled on this smartphone.”

The carrier launched HD Voice only a few weeks ago, and only with support for a small number of mobile phones on its offering, though more of them should emerge soon.

The 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen display on the front is complemented by an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for full HD video recording, as well as by a front-facing camera that can be used to place video calls.

Not to mention that the handset also comes with support for a wide range of Google Mobile services, as well as for enhanced web browsing with support for Adobe Flash Player, and access to applications that can be downloaded from the Android Market.

“The Samsung GALAXY S II provides access to a range of apps (both pre-loaded on the device or delivered through Samsung Apps) including free premium turn-by-turn navigation from NAVIGON and a free 30-day trial of The Age and Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide apps,” Telstra explains.

Galaxy S II will be available on Telstra’s $59 Freedom Connect Plan for $20 per month (min cost is $1,896), with $550 worth of eligible calls, unlimited standard national text and 1.5GB of data included.

Business customers will be able to purchase the device on the $79 Business Mobile Maximiser plan with a $15 phone payment per month (min cost is $ 2,256 over 24 months). The handset will be available outright for RRP $840.
