U.S. Cellular announced about two weeks ago that it will carry the Samsung Galaxy S II. Today, the operator announced the immediate availability of the smartphone online and at the U.S. Cellular stores.

Customers who want to purchase the Galaxy S II will be able to do so for as low as $230 (170 EUR) after a $100 mail-in rebate and a new two-year agreement. Obviously, customers will also need to sign up for a data plan as well.

It appears that U.S. Cellular will be one of the last US-based carriers to launch the Samsung Galaxy S II. The smartphone will be shipped with Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on board.

However, Samsung already confirmed it would push the Ice Cream Sandwich update in Q1 2012, though the company has yet to reveal the exact release date. According to the latest hearsay, Samsung plans to roll out an Android 4.0 update for Galaxy Note on March 1, soon followed by a Galaxy S II.

The smartphone comes with a large 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen display (480 x 800 pixels resolution) that features Corning Gorilla Glass Coating.

Furthermore, the handset is equipped with a 1.2 GHz Samsung Exynos C210 dual-core processor, 16GB of internal memory, 1GB of RAM, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

On the back, Samsung Galaxy S II boasts an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, while in the front there’s a 2-megapixel camera for self-portraits and video calls.

The Galaxy S II is the ultimate phone for people looking to simplify and organize their lives. The features combined with U.S. Cellular’s unique benefits, like our Battery Swap, make it the go-to device for customers who depend on their smartphone to keep up with their busy schedules,” said Edward Perez, vice president of sales and marketing operations for U.S. Cellular.
