A new Android-based mobile phone coming from Samsung went official today, namely the Samsung GALAXY R, a dual-core handset that should be able to provide users with great performance capabilities once it arrives on shelves.

The new mobile phone runs under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and sports a lightweight, slim and sleek metallic design.

The smartphone measures only 9.55mm thick and weighs in at just 131 grams. It comes with a large 4.19” Super Clear LCD touchscreen display, and is expected to offer low power consumption.

The handset was packed with a powerful 1650mAh battery that can deliver up to 580 minutes of talk time and up to 550 hours of standby time courtesy of Samsung's advanced power consumption technology.

“The year 2011 is turning out to be a great year for Samsung as the leader in smart mobile devices,” Hankil Yoon, vice president of Smartphone Product Planning Group in Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business.

“I am very pleased that the GALAXY R will boost our leadership and add up to the industry’s most comprehensive Android smartphone portfolio that we already have.

“Consumers are looking for stylish, premium devices with high performance as well as long battery life, and the GALAXY R meets these requirements in every way.”

The Samsung GALAXY R comes with a fast dual-core application processor, and can deliver increased performance capabilities, along with great multimedia features.

It also sports a 5-megapixel photo snapper on back, with smooth HD 720p video capture capabilities and full HD 1080p playback(Divx, WMV, MP4, H.264 B/P) at 30fps(frames per second).

The specifications list of the new device also includes HSPA capabilities, along with Bluetooth 3.0 HS and USB 2.0 support, and WiFi capabilities.

Not only does the new mobile phone come to the market with Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on board, but it also includes Samsung Hubs, so that users can enjoy content at all times, no matter where they are, and to ensure they are also connected with their social lives.

The Samsung GALAXY R features the following Hubs:

– A Social Hub which aggregates the user’s contacts, calendar and email along with instant messaging and social networking connections all within one easy-to-use interface, keeping you in control of your social life, wherever you are.

– A Music Hub that gives you access to over 14 million tracks, old and new, turning the Samsung GALAXY R into your own personal jukebox.

– A Readers Hub enabling the user to carry around a vast library wherever they go, with access to over 2.3 million books, 2,000 newspapers and 3,000 magazines across a variety of languages.

– And a built-in Game Hub provides a terrific gaming experience for both casual and hardcore mobile gamers. Furthermore, the in-built 3-axis gyroscopic sensor unlocks a world of gaming possibilities.

The new smartphone is set to hit the market at the end of July in Europe, and should become available for purchase around the world as well, in markets in South East & West Asia, Middle East Asia, and China.
