Today, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics and Internet giant Google announced the release of a new Google phone, one that arrives on shelves under the name of GALAXY Nexus.

The new device packs top-of-the line technology advancements and also runs under the latest version of Android, namely 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The new mobile phone sports a 4.65" HD Super AMOLED touchscreen display, along with a 1.2GHz dual-core application processor, which should provide it with increased raw power.

“Samsung and Google have closely collaborated to push the mobile experience forward. We are pleased to deliver the best Android smartphone experience for customers with GALAXY Nexus,” JK Shin, President and Head of Samsung's Mobile Communications Business, commented.

“We will continue to move forward with Android to provide the compelling consumer experience in mobile world.”

GALAXY Nexus is the first Android device in the world to come to the market with a 4.65-inch display that can deliver a 720p (1280x720) resolution, which should result in a great experience when viewing multimedia files or playing games on the go.

It also arrives on shelves with LTE or HSPA+ connectivity, Wi-Fi hotspot, NFC, a high-quality camera on the back, along with a front-facing snapper for making video calls, and built-in GPS receiver with support for Google Maps 5.0 with 3D maps and turn-by-turn navigation.

Moreover, the new device comes with a great deal of features powered by the new Ice Cream Sandwich OS, including a new People app, Face Unlock, Android Beam, or access to Music Beta by Google.

Ice Cream Sandwich demonstrates the Android platform's continued innovation with one release that works on phones and tablets and everything in between,” Andy Rubin, Senior Vice President of Mobile for Google, stated.

“Features like Android Beam and Face Unlock show the innovative work our team is doing, and GALAXY Nexus showcases the power behind Ice Cream Sandwich.”

The new GALAXY Nexus is set to become available for purchase in the U.S., Europe, and Asia starting with the next month. It will be gradually rolled-out to other markets around the world as well.
