Samsung announced the Galaxy Grand for emerging markets back in December and promised that the Android smartphone would hit shelves in Q1 2013.

Well, it looks like the first country to receive the Samsung Galaxy Grand is India. Unfortunately, this is not the dual-SIM version of the smartphone, though the handset maker might introduce it at a later date.

According to Fonearena, Samsung Galaxy Grand will be officially launched in India on January 22, but we’re still not sure whether Android fans will be able to purchase it the same day.

We also expect Samsung to announce more details on the smartphone’s availability and pricing options, so stay tuned for more updates on this one.

In order to emphasize the upcoming release of the Galaxy Grand, Samsung has kicked off a contest that offers Android enthusiasts the chance to win the smartphone.

It appears that winners will be announced during the January 22 launch event, so those who wish to test their luck should register here.

Samsung Galaxy Grand is not a high-end device, but it offers more than decent features. Depending on the price tag, the smartphone might be extremely popular among Indian customers.

The device will ship with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box and will pack a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz.

On the inside, the Galaxy Grand embeds 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 64GB via microSD memory card.

Another strong point of the phone is the huge 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display, which, sadly, supports only 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

The Galaxy Grand has also been confirmed to arrive with an enhanced 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as a secondary 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls.
