The leading producer of memory modules has announced a change of direction for these products, Samsung intending in the near future to reduce the production of 400 MHz DDR2 modules in favor of the 667MHz DDR2 modules.
The
Koreans from Samsung believe that by the end of this year, 667MHz DDR2 memory will be a standard for this domain. The solution uses 90 nanometer process technology, and the 667MHz DDR2 modules will be available in 256 MB, 512 MB and 1 GB versions.
Obviously, users hope that this strategy will result in a drop in prices for this type of memory. Still, Samsung doesn't give up on the classic DDR memories, considering the high number of users who resort to these solutions for the PC systems with AMD platform.
Advanced Micro Devices might introduce DDR2 support starting with next year, and by then the spreading of 667 MHz memory modules will reach global level, and the prices will be more accessible.
