After a number of product demos and concept exhibitions, Samsung has finally filed for a flexible display patent.

In essence, the company has envisioned a screen that can roll like a scroll of papyrus.

A plastic substrate is going to be used in its making, unless Samsung finds some special, very thin glass that can survive such motions repeatedly.

AMOLED should also work, as should LCDs, to some extent anyway.

In addition to the so-called papyrus screen and its ability to fit in a pen-style casing, Samsung envisions uses in folding digital books and other gadgets.

We can't help but think back to the video that Corning published when it announced the Gorilla Glass 2.

Samsung definitely seems to be thinking along the same lines and we would not be surprised to hear of Corning somehow contributing to the accomplishment of the other's vision.
