Samsung Epix (SGH-i907) owners can now upgrade their phone's software, after two years from the smartphone's launch on the market. Released in October 2008, Samsung Epix was picked and distributed by AT&T, which seems that has stopped selling the device for some time now. Anyway, those that are still using the smartphone nowadays, will be able to upgrade from Windows Mobile 6.1 to 6.5.

The smartphone that came with Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional was powered by a 624 MHz processor and featured a full QWERTY keyboard, optical trackpad and handwriting recognition. It also included a 2.5-inches TFT resistive touch screen with 65K colors support and 320x320 pixel resolution.

Other highlights of the device includes: 2-megapixel camera, 150 MB RAM, 256 MB ROM, microSD card slot (up to 16GB), HSDPA 3.6 Mbps, Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP support, GPS with A-GPS support (AT&T Navigator). Samsung Epix also boasts an incredible 1800 mAh Li-Ion battery capable to offer up to 340h in standby mode and up to 7h in talk time mode.

The upgrade comes as a surprise after such a long time, but Samsung is already known for not keeping their phones' software updated, unless they are hit by very nasty bugs. One such example is the Samsung I7500 who has yet to receive its Android 1.6 update, as well as the the newer ones 2.1 and 2.2.

The update is hosted by Samsung's official website, on the support page of the device and was posted last week. The updating software does not require users to make a backup of their information stored, but just in case you should do it if you have important information stored.
