Samsung BlackJack II's glory days for AT&T are kind of gone, so it's about time the largest North American mobile carrier came with a new and better Samsung QWERTY handset. Word on the street has it that the BlackJack III, or at least a handset that looks like a BJ III, will be officially presented by AT&T on October 23.

The smartphone in question will not be named Samsung BlackJack III, but Samsung Epix, and appears to be the US version of Samsung i780, which is available across Europe and Asia for some time now.

Since it's highly similar to the i780, Samsung Epix should pack features alike. Thus, it will probably bring the following: a square 2.6-inch TFT touchscreen display with 320 x 320 pixels and 65K colors, optical mouse, built-in GPS, TeleNav navigation, Wi-Fi, Opera Mobile 8.65, document reader and editor, email and Instant Messaging, Music and Video players, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, a 2 Megapixel camera and support for microSD / microSDHC memory cards (probably for up to 16GB, since SanDisk has recently announced the availability of these high-capacity cards).

According to a promo flier that surfaced over at Boy Genius Report, the new Samsung Epix will be showcased on the above-mentioned date, during an event called “The Future of Business.” With the smartphone running on the latest Windows Mobile 6.1 OS, Microsoft representatives will be present at the event as well. Participants at The Future of Business will have the chance to win attractive prizes, such as a Samsung LCD HDTV, a Samsung home theater system, or a 6 Megapixel Samsung digital camera.

Unfortunately, there's no word yet on where The Future of Business event will be held. Also, there are no details regarding the price of Epix, but interested users should expect it to be offered by AT&T for somewhere around 200 USD with a contract agreement.
