Wireless carrier Sprint has just made available for purchase on its airwaves a new high-end smartphone, the Samsung Epic 4G Touch, Sprint's own flavor of none other than the highly popular Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone.

Running under Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and boasting a large 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, along with a fast 1.2Ghz application processor, the handset offers support for Sprint's 4G network, the same as the Epic 4G did before it.

The new mobile phone is available for purchase today on the carrier's website here with a price tag of $199.99 attached to it with the signing of a two-year contract agreement. The off-contract cost for the smartphone was set at $499.99.

The new device measures 2.7” x 5.1” x 0.38” and weighs in at 4.6 oz, yet it lacks the sliding QWERTY keyboard its successor arrived on shelves at Sprint with.

On the other hand, it comes with a 1800 mAh Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) Battery packed inside, capable off offering up to 8.7 hours of talk time, and increased music listening and web browsing time as well.

“The legendary entertainment abilities of the Samsung Epic 4G are now available in a super-thin design,” the mobile phone carrier notes.

“Packed with a brilliant 4.52" Super AMOLED Plus display, 3G/4G speeds, optional Mobile Hotspot, video chat capability, a speedy processor, dual cameras and the ability to share HD content via DLNA output – the only thing the Epic 4G Touch is slim on is size.

“At only 0.4" thick, this speed demon and multimedia master is designed to be the perfect, portable entertainment powerhouse.”

Samsung Epic 4G Touch also comes to the market with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, GPS receiver, microSD memory card slot for expanding the available storage space, Mobile Hotspot capabilities, and with an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for HD video recording.
