Wireless services provider Sprint has made available for download a new software update for its Samsung Epic 4G smartphones.

The new firmware arrives on mobile phones as update EL30 and sports software version S:D700.0.5S.EL30, Sprint announced.

The update was designed to provide users with a series of fixes and enhancements for their devices, while also bringing some new features.

Following the installation of this software update, Samsung Epic 4G users will benefit from a series of security improvements, and from a fix for the Speaker feedback.

Moreover, the update was meant to remove the previously preinstalled QIK and Asphalt 5 applications from the handset.

The full changelog for the new software update includes:

- Security update - Speaker feedback fix - The QIK and Asphalt 5 applications are no longer preloaded. When opening the applications using the application icon, you will be redirected to the Android Market to download and install the full application. - After the QIK install, you will need to login using your original account information or create a new account. All contacts should remain intact - After the Asphalt 5 install, previous game play data (eg. levels) will not be retained.

The new software update for the Samsung Epic 4G is being delivered to devices in stages, which means that not all users will receive it right away.

As soon as the update is available for their devices, users will receive a notification on it. Of course, they can also manually check to see whether the update has arrived. Sprint notes that they should recheck if no update appears.

The wireless carrier expects the update process to have been completed within the next 10 days. Those users who would like to access detailed instructions on how to install the software update on their Samsung Epic 4G should head over to the wireless carrier’s support website.
