He could have proved his ownership of patents that predate the iPhone

In a move that may very well be a great blow to Samsung's case in the patent trial taking place in San Jose, California, Hyong Shin Park has not been allowed as a witness.

Hyong Shin Park is a Samsung engineer and designer that helped Samsung make the F700 phone, which has similarities to the Apple iPhone.

Like the latter, the smartphone has a rectangular shape with rounded corners (yes, there are patents for this).

The problem? The F700 phone is not part of the Nexus devices that Apple is crying foul over and, thus, “the probative value” of his testimony is outweighed by the risk of undue prejudice to Apple.

A real shame, for Samsung anyway. The man may very well have given believability to the speculation that Apple copied Samsung rather than the other way around.
