Earlier this month, Samsung announced its next-generation Chromebook laptops that came in 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch flavors. Now the company comes back to bring us detailed information about the processors powering up the two new notebooks.

But first for a short memory refresh. Compared to the previous generation, with the new models Samsung has improved things in the performance department and also upped things a notch while battery is concerned.

The new Chromebooks are lighter and thinner than what we have seen before, as to keep up with the growing number of super sleek devices available on the market.

Out of the two models, the 13.3-inch model is the most impressive one, as it comes boasting a beautiful HD resolution with 1920 x 1080 pixels, being the only Chromebook to offer this option.

Compared to the only other 13.3-inch Chromebook available on the market today, that has a 1366 x 768 pixel, the Samsung one surely wins in this department. On the other hand, the smaller 11.6-inch model offers the same as the Toshiba.

Since the official announcement was made, we knew the two Chromebook models will be powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 5 Octa processors. Sammy is expected to be pushing the adoption of its chip architecture, in order to gain momentum in the AP market.

So this week, the Korean tech giant is detailing the Exynos 5 Octa chips that will be maintaining things running smoothly from under the hoods, on the Chromebooks.

The Exynos 5 Octa family comes bundled with an eight-core ARM big.LITTLE processor build specifically to better handle multiple tasks in high-end mobile devices.

“Maximizing performance in tight power and thermal budgets is critical in today’s mobile devices. Compared to the Exynos 5 Dual, our new Exynos 5 Octa application processors deliver up to 125 percent increase in computing and two times the multimedia performance.”

"This enables designers to develop leading-edge products with significantly improved battery life,” says Samsung.

The 11.6-inch model has an Exynos 5 Ocra based on four big cores (ARM Cortex-A15 processors at 1.9GHz) and four small cores (ARM Cortex-A7 processors at 1.3GHz).

On the other hand, the 13.3-inch model draws life from an Exynos 5 Octa with big.LITTLE technology (ARM-Cortex-A15 processors at 2.0GHz and ARM Cortex-A7 processors at 1.3GHz).

The architecture is based on 28nm High-K Metal Gate process technology and bundles multi-core ARM Mali GPUs, aspects that have enabled Samsung to shrink down the battery package, capable of delivering an improved battery life.
