14 DAY TRIAL // After reportedly certifying a blatant Smart Cover rip-off for its Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet computer, Samsung is stepping forward to dismiss such claims.
Still embroiled in a legal dispute with Apple over design similarities between their portable offerings, Korea-based Samsung Electronics has stepped in to confirm that Anymode’s Smart Cases have not been approved by the company for the newest Galaxy Tab iteration.
The cases are advertised as being "designed for Samsung mobile."
While not expressly admitting to the striking similarities between Anymode’s protective case and Apple’s own Smart Covers, Samsung today issued a statement on their official global blog, saying:
“As a general practice, Samsung Electronics reviews and approves all accessories produced by partners before they are given the ‘Designed for Samsung Mobile’ mark.”
“In this case, approval was not given to Anymode for the accessory to feature this official designation,” the statement continues.
“We are working with Anymode to address this oversight and the product has already been removed from the Anymode sales website. The product has not been sold,” Samsung clarifies.
Anymode seems to be completely ignorant to the fact that Apple, the most valuable technology company in the world, markets and sells a case that looks and works virtually the same as their own.
With the exception of an actual ‘case’ that encloses the Galaxy Tab, the Smart Case features almost identical functionality to the Apple Smart Cover, which allows users to fold it up in various ways for different viewing and typing angles, as well as for screen protection.

Furthermore, the marketing of the Smart Case seems almost completely borrowed from Apple. The colors these cases come in are the same as Apple’s.
The promotional images look as if they were taken from Apple’s website and had the iPad 2 brushed out to be replaced with the Samsung tablet.
Had the people at Anymode been reading the news lately, it would have probably occurred to them that Samsung couldn’t have possibly given its blessing for this product.
