Many iPhone killers, but Apple's phone is still alive and well

From the long list of handsets sharing similar specifications and the same iPhone look, Samsung brings the Croix model. It's supposed to top Apple's phone, but, from what it looks like, it only manages to copy it.

I thought that only the Chinese used to bring almost identical replicas of various phone models coming from leading producers, but it looks like even the big developers resort to this type of solutions. Touchscreen technology has been the natural flow in the case of mobile phone development. The problem is that most of the phones trying to top the iPhone end up by looking just the same and bringing nearly the same performances. What kind of "killers" are they supposed to be?

Samsung Croix looks like just another device from the huge bunch of iPhone look-a-likes. Still, it does have one feature which promises to receive some appreciation. The phone's user interface has won an iF Communication Design Award 2007. This might just be the innovation needed, although Apple's handset has managed to win a lot of credit for itself since it has first been announced.

"Croix is the backbone of a series of finger touch-based mobile phones with full touch screens; it features an intuitive interface through on-screen touch input mapping which supports five different ways of interaction. An optimal distribution of the operational area and toolbox makes touch access much easier", is stated on the iF Communication Design Award 2007 website.

The phone's name translates to "Cross" in French and it supposedly symbolizes the phone's "constant data transmission on a progressive continuum", opposed to the transmission from one item to the next, as regular handsets use. Specifications for Samsung Croix are unknown, which makes it only a concept at this time. There is no information regarding the date when this device will hit the market.
