Today, November 8th, 2010, is the day when Samsung and Verizon Wireless announce officially the launch of a new smartphone, the Samsung Continuum. Rumored for quite some time now, the handset seems set to finally make an appearance on shelves in the US, as its user manual has been already published on Verizon's website here (PDF).

The Samsung Continuum is an Android- based smartphone, and leaked documents from Verizon showed it as being a Galaxy S device.

The new mobile phone comes to the market with dual displays, so as to offer increased usability, as well as longer battery life.

Beneath the main display, the Continuum sports a smaller screen, on which it displays various notifications, messages, missed calls, weather info, and the like.

The new mobile phone is expected to become official as soon as today, during an event held in New York, which was announced several weeks ago.

Moreover, the handset vendor itself let slip at one moment that the new device would be launched today, in an attempt to put an end to rumors that the event would be focused on the launch of a so called Nexus Two device.

However, it appears that Continuum would be the handset of the day, as its user manual has just popped up at Verizon, while the handset itself was also spotted on the carrier's website here.

Previously, we had the chance to see the Continuum on Verizon's website along with the Samsung Galaxy Tab, the Android-based tablet PC the carrier should make available for purchase in the near future.

While there's little doubt that Verizon and Samsung will make the handset official today, it still remains to be seen when exactly il would be put on sale at Big Red.

We should also mention that there are little details available on the price tag the smartphone would feature, though recent rumors suggested that we might see it put on sale priced at $199 upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement with the wireless carrier.
