Today, mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless and leading handset vendor Samsung Mobile announced the launch of a new Galaxy S smartphone on the operator's network, namely the Samsung Continuum.

The most interesting feature of the new device would be its second display, placed on the handset's front, right beneath the main display.

According to the handset vendor, the inclusion of this second display into the mix should result in increased battery life for the device, complemented by the ability to keep users up to date with various info at all times.

The smaller display was designed to provide updates on weather, news, messages, missed calls and more, so that users are kept informed continuously, something suggested by the phone's name as well.

This was the main idea from which Samsung Continuum was born, and the same idea is exemplified in the video presentation embedded at the bottom of this article.

As for the handset's specs, we can count the 3.4-inch Super AMOLED Main Touch Screen Display, complemented by said the 1.8-inch Interactive Super AMOLED Ticker Display, as well as the 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird Application Processor packed inside this device.

The new mobile phone also includes a 5.0-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus, LED flash and HD video recording capabilities.

Moreover, its specs list shows 3.5-millimeter headphone jack, as well as Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) connectivity, along with Stereo Bluetooth, and with support for the wireless carrier's 3G network.

The smartphone runs under Google's Android 2.1 operating system, and sport a microSD memory card slot with support for 32 GB cards (an 8 GB microSD included into the mix).

Verizon also packed the new device with specific apps, including: V CAST Music with Rhapsody, V CAST Video on Demand, V CAST Song ID, Visual Voice Mail, V CAST Tones, VZ Navigator, Mobile IM, City ID, Bing Search and Maps, and Blockbuster Application.

Starting with November 11th, the new smartphone will become available for order from the carrier's website, while being expected to be put on sale as soon as November 18th.

The price tag for the new device was set at $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate, upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement with the wireless carrier.
