Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless and leading handset vendor Samsung Mobile have just announced the availability of a software update for the Samsung Continuum, the Android-based handset that arrived at Verizon with two displays on board.

Currently running under Google's Android 2.1 operating system flavor, the Continuum would remain at the same platform version following the update too, as this is only a minor firmware bump for it, it seems.

Even so, the new software update, i400.DL17, comes with a wide range of enhancements, and should provide users with an improved mobile experience, it seems.

Here's what one can read in the release notes for the new firmware for the Continuum:

- Reply/Forward Visual Voice Mail audio files as attachments - Improved Visual Voice Mail functionality - Press the camera button no longer launches the Messenger Application - All received picture messages properly display the embedded image - Added ability to delete a threaded message while in the body of the thread - Alert appears when a message of 150+ characters sends as an MMS message - Added multiple email messages to be deleted from POP3 accounts - Contact time displays correctly in the notification bar when a text message is received - Successfully hide all declined events on Facebook application - Improved voice dialing response time when connected to a Bluetooth headset or car kit - “Locate Me” GPS feature in the WeatherBug widget now works correctly. - Properly display Daylight Savings Time in WeatherBug application - Completely delete RSS history - Avoid device transitioning into a no service state when it should not have - Device will not force close when setting a wallpaper Among the other enhancements the new software release brings forth, we can count the fact that the VCAST Apps are now available for Continuum, or that the audio track in V CAST Music will auto-pause as soon as one selects a V CAST or native video to start.

Unfortunately, the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system is still not available for download for Verizon Wireless' customers using a Samsung Continuum.

No details on when would the new operating system flavor emerge for Continuum owners were made available for the time being, but we can only hope that Verizon and Samsung won't delay its release for much longer.

Those who would like to learn more on the new software update should head over to Verizon's support website here.
