Sprint and Samsung were hoping to sell quite a number of Conquer 4G smartphones back in August when the device went live on the carrier’s airwaves.

Unfortunately, Samsung Conquer 4G is not among the popular handsets available at Sprint, which is probably one of the reasons that it’s among the last to receive this update, meant to remove the infamous Carrier IQ software.

The Conquer 4G was shipped with Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system at launch, but there’s a high chance that the smartphone will receive some sort of upgrade to make owners content with their devices.

Samsung has already confirmed it will deploy a special “Value Pack” for most Galaxy family devices that do not have the required hardware to offer a smooth Ice Cream Sandwich user experience.

Among these devices, there’s Galaxy S, Galaxy W and probably the original Galaxy Tab. It won’t come as a surprise if Sprint also makes this update available for the Conquer 4G, especially given the fact that the smartphone’s insides are not that impressive at all.

The phone is equipped with a 1 GHz single core Qualcomm MSM8665 processor and packs only 512 MB of RAM. There’s also 1GB of ROM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Until Samsung decides what to do with the Conquer 4G, it looks like there’s a new minor update available for download. Software version FC17 is now pushed OTA (over the air) in stages, with 100% of devices having received the update within 10 days.

Besides removing the Carrier IQ software, the following changes have been included:

- The Magic, Smoke, Many, Maps, Nexus, Spectrum, Water, and Waveform live wallpapers have been removed. - Owners may choose a different wallpaper from the gallery or use the default wallpaper which will be in place after the update.
