Samsung will start updating its mid-range phones soon

Samsung wasn't exactly the fastest device maker to pick up the Android 5.0 Lollipop for its handsets and tablets, but once the Korean tech giant got the hang of it, the Lollipops started pouring in ceaselessly.

So far, we have seen Samsung offer the much anticipated update for flagship devices, like the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 4, and others. But the Korean tech giant also has a handful of mid-range devices that are very much compatible with the update.

It’s just that Samsung hasn't provided us with a full roadmap, so we don’t know which of these models will get the Lollipop update, if any.

Other device makers, however, have already offered Lollipop to their mid-range products. It’s the case of LG, which yesterday announced the kick-start of the update process for its line-up of G Pad tablets, which don’t feature stellar specs. Far from it.

It seems that Samsung will be following the steps of LG and update its mid-range offerings too. Case in point, the company’s French subsidiary has announced that the Galaxy Note 3 Neo will receive the Lollipop treatment this year.

The information was extracted from Twitter, where an owner of the Galaxy Note 3 Neo asked when the device would be given the Lollipop treatment.

Sadly, Samsung doesn't specify exactly during which month we can hope to see Lollipop grace the phablet, but it’s still comforting to know that the update is being prepped.

The Galaxy Note 3 Neo is a toned-down version of the older Galaxy Note 3 flagship. The phone comes with a 5.5-inch, 720p display and takes advantage of an Exynos 5260 SoC working in concert with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card).

Samsung also offers an 8MP/2MP camera combo and there’s a 3,100 mAh battery supporting things, so the handset can run smoothly.

Interestingly enough, the design of the Galaxy Note 3 Neo is quite similar to the fully-fledged phablet, so aesthetically it’s pretty difficult to discern between the two.

A few days ago, we told you that Samsung wasn’t currently considering the Android 5.1 update, which is only available for the Nexus tablets/phones for the time being.
