Last month, during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung unveiled to the world the second gen Samsung Galaxy S device, and rumors on a new flavor of this handset being set to land on shelves soon have started to emerge.

The original Galaxy S II device was announced with the company's own dual-core processor inside, the so called Exynos, yet the company might have other plans for this smartphone as well.

Apparently, the handset vendor is set to bring to the market a Samsung Galaxy S II device that would pack an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core application processor inside.

This is not the first time such rumors make it to the web, but it seems that confirmation on the matter already surfaced, even if Samsung did not make a formal announcement on this as of yet.

NVIDIA's highly praised Tegra 2 chip was already chosen to power a wide range of new smartphones headed for the market in the near future, as well as various tablet PCs that would hit shelves with Google's Android operating system on board.

Samsung themselves selected the processor for the recently announced Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, as well as for the 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.

Moreover, it appears that the company decided that the chip would be a great option for the new high-end Android Galaxy S II smartphone as well.

Exynos and Tegra 2 offer similar performance levels, while the yields for the former are reportedly worst than expected, and it makes perfect sense that Samsung made the move.

What remains to be seen is which markets would receive which device. Rumor has it that the US and UK users would receive the Exynos-powered Galaxy S II units, while others would taste the Tegra 2-based devices.

As stated above, nothing was officially announced on the matter, and we'll actually have to wait for that to happen before knowing for sure what Samsung's plans are on this.
