Samsung is looking to focus on tablets and smartphones this year

As I have told you before, Samsung plans to make 2014 the year of the tablet. The company is expected to have a great year in this department and sources familiar with the matter predict Sammy will manage to ship a total of 60-70 million units this year.

But what about Sammy’s notebook business? According to recent information provided by DigiTimes, the Korean tech giant has reduced its laptop shipment goal for 2014 to seven million globally.

This constitutes a pretty huge 41.67% reduction from the 12 million shipped in 2014. Samsung actually hoped to ship 17 million notebooks last year, but its calculations didn't fare out.

Taiwan-based supply chain makers claim Samsung will not be launching any conventional notebook models, except for some Chromebooks which will see the light of day in 2015.

Samsung has just launched its next-gen Ativ Book 9 with a choice between Intel Core i5 or Intel i7 UVL processors under the hood, at CES 2014, so that should keep Sammy notebook lovers busy for a while.
