The device looks like a mash-up between ATV Book 9 Plus and the Galaxy Note 3

New Samsung Chromebooks appear to be on their way, as pictures detailing the device have been leaked in the press in the past few hours.

Not so long ago we told you that two new next-gen Samsung Chromebook models showed up on the webpage of US online retailer BHPhotoVideo.

The listing didn't reveal much about them, but we did find out there’s going to be two versions of the device, consisting of different screen sizes, 11.6-inches and 13.3-inches.

Now here’s the interesting bit. Last year when Samsung pulled the veil off the Galaxy Note 3, one of the features that stood out right off the bat was the back cover. Apparently, Sammy decided to drop the glossy plastic look of its predecessor, in order to adopt faux leather instead.

Since then Samsung has been avidly using faux-leather in a whole bunch of products, including its latest Galaxy NotePRO 12.2 tablet. This particular aesthetic choice hasn't made everybody happy and some voices claim Samsung should give up the ridiculous obsession with faux-leather.

Even so, according to the pictures posted by infamous leakster @evleaks, Samsung is going to be porting the same look to its new line of Chromebooks. If you thought faux-leather tablets were a bit too much, wait until you see this laptop.

Looking at the picture of this upcoming product, we get ATIV Book 9 Plus vibes mixed in with Galaxy Note 3. Also noticeable from the image is that the Chrome-enhanced laptop will sport a pretty thin frame and is going to probably be pretty light, as well.

Apart from its overall look, there’s not much info on the upcoming new Chromebook models, so we’re only left to speculate. For example, the original Samsung Chromebook was powered by an Exynos processor, so we might end up seeing the same in the new models, too.

Actually according to the listing on BHPhoto, the 11.6-inch next-gen Chromebook is listed as being powered by an Exynos SoC (we don’t know the exact specifics), so it makes sense the 13.3-inch model might be taking advantage of the same chip architecture.

After all, we have been bringing you news in the past, of Samsung’s intentions of increasing its AP (application processor) marketshare.

Last week in Barcelona, Sammy took the opportunity to unveil two new processors, dubbed Infinity, the octa-core Exynos 5422 and six-core Exynos 5260, both aimed at mobile devices.

We should also remind you of a rumor circulating back in December which stated Samsung was hard at work in getting ready a Chromebook with Exynos 5 Octa 5420 SoC. Maybe this is what we’re headed in for.
