Korean handset maker Samsung has just launched a new application for its latest Galaxy S smartphone, S Health. Following the same name scheme as the S Voice, S Beam and other apps and services that come pre-loaded on the Galaxy S III, S Health offers a wide range of features.

First and foremost, S Health is a personal wellness application that can monitor users’ weight, blood sugar and other health-related stats, which are then translated into graphs.

Although the application was not included in the initial package of apps for Galaxy S III, S Health was demoed at the Unpacked launch event back in May.

According to Samsung, S Health is capable of collecting health data in order to help maintain a much better lifestyle.

S Health is fully compatible with quite a number of healthcare sensors, such as blood glucose meters, blood pressure monitors and body composition scales:

- Lifescan Blood Glucose Meter (OneTouch UltraMini/UltraEasy Blood Glucose Meter in the US) (for connection via USB); - OMRON Blood Pressure Monitor (HEM-7081-IT) and Body Composition (HBF-206-IT) (for connection via Bluetooth); - A&D Blood Pressure Monitor (UA-767PBT-C) and Body Composition (UA-321PBT-C) (for connection via Bluetooth).

It appears that the app enables the sensors to transfer a wide range of health stats automatically to the Galaxy S III through Bluetooth or USB, thus showing the information on the user's health.

In addition, data can also be entered manually for various reasons, such as medication intake, diet or exercise. Last but not least, users can share health stats via social networking apps, including Twitter.

For the time being, S Health The app is only available in five European countries, South Korea and United States. The application can be downloaded via Samsung Apps store or More Services app.

S Health can provide real benefits in terms of tracking and monitoring health and wellness for our customers. We're delighted to bring this innovative application to the Galaxy S III's portfolio of diverse content and applications to suit different needs,” said Simon Stanford, vice president of Telecommunications and Networks, Samsung UK and Ireland.
