Samsung finally upgraded its Samsung BlackJack smartphone (or Samsung i607) to Windows Mobile 6 and announced the availability of a free download directly from the company's website. BlackJack owners can now visit this address and download the update that turns the smartphone from a Windows Mobile 5.0 device into a Windows Mobile 6.0 one for richer multimedia capabilities and improved functionality.

"Samsung is excited to work with AT&T and Microsoft to bring loyal fans of the BlackJack an opportunity to refresh their experience with the Windows Mobile 6 upgrade," said Bill Ogle, Chief Marketing Officer at Samsung. "The upgrade will enhance mobile productivity with key feature enhancements such as Video Share calling and Microsoft Office Mobile."

"AT&T customers continue to love the BlackJack and the availability of Windows Mobile 6 capabilities presents them with a winning combination that brings the BlackJack to new heights in terms of functionality," said Michael Woodward, AT&T vice president, Business Voice/Data and Mobility Products. "It is a great enhancement to AT&T's industry leading Windows Mobile device portfolio."

Available in the US exclusively from AT&T, Samsung BlackJack was released more than a year ago and turned out to be a very successful device, both in North America and around the world, continuing to attract consumers, although a newer version, BlackJack II, was also released. The robust BlackJack brings 3G connectivity and enhanced business functionality to users. With the Windows Mobile 6 upgrade, Samsung BlackJack also offers improved Office Mobile capabilities (manage Word and Excel documents as well as view PowerPoint documents) and HTML e-mail, which includes support for images and links to websites. Other features packed in Samsung BlackJack include a 1.3 Megapixel camera with multi-shot and self-timer, QWERTY keyboard, MP3 player and Bluetooth 2.0 with stereo headset support.
