IDC has just released its preliminary tablet sales data for the Q3 of 2013. Overall global shipments increased to 47.6 million devices in the period, and Samsung remained the biggest Android slate seller in the world.

“Wordwide tablet shipments grew to 47.6 million units in the third quarter of 2013. While slightly below the firm’s forecast, the number still represents 7% growth over the previous quarter and 36.7% growth compared to the third quarter of 2012,” said the official IDC statement.

Apple still manages to remain on top of the tablet “food chain” with 29.6% marketshare in Q3, but according to the numbers, Android slates are the ones driving growth and profit into the overall market. More importantly, iPad shipments have experienced a decrease from Q2 of 2013.

Samsung experienced a huge 123% increase in shipments year-over-year, while Asus and Lenovo join Samsung in the quest against the iPad, with 7.4% and 4.8% marketshare, respectively.

Most impressively, Lenovo posted a 420.7% growth year-over-year. Also, Acer is the only other brand vendor who managed to sell a decent amount of tablets in Q3 to make it to the IDC top.
