One of the highly popular devices out there that many would want to see updated to the latest version of the Android operating system is the Samsung Galaxy S III, but it seems that this might not happen as soon as some might hope.

In fact, if the latest statement from Samsung Arabia is to be believed, the South Korean mobile phone maker has no plans to deliver the update to this device, at least not at this time.

Although the company said only yesterday that the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS was set to arrive on Samsung Galaxy S III before the end of this month, it retracted that today, and was pretty straightforward about it: “as of now, there is no plan in updating the Galaxy S3. Thanks.”

Last month, Samsung provided a list of devices that were set to receive the Android 4.4 KitKat platform version and confirmed the update for a nice range of smartphones, but Galaxy S III was not among them.

However, some of the latest reports on the device suggested that the company might actually bring the update to it, and the fact that Samsung Arabia said yesterday that this would happen before the end of this month came in as confirmation.

Unfortunately, it appears that things won’t happen this way and that Galaxy S III might actually be left out of KitKat entirely.

According to SamMobile, there is no KitKat build available for this device on Samsung’s test servers, which supposedly shows that the company hasn’t started working on it as of now.

Furthermore, those who claim that the smartphone will remain on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean forever are many, which makes the chances that it will actually get a taste of the KitKat platform officially very slim.

Of course, users might consider trying out unofficial Android 4.4 builds for the smartphone, such as those coming from the CyanogenMod team.

The latest release of their software, available for download as CyanogenMod 11, is based on Android 4.4.2 KitKat and provides users with all the benefits that this OS version has to offer.

As for the official update for Galaxy S III, it appears that you should not hold your breath for it. Hopefully, Samsung will listen to its users and make it available for them, but no official confirmation on such plans has been provided as of now, and nothing is certain until Samsung makes a formal statement on the matter.
