Recently, super-zoomers have started to change their shape, more and more manufacturers offering impressive zoom ranges in compact cameras, Samsung being the latest to do just so with the WB700 that is capable of 18X optical magnification.

The 16MP, 1/2.33-inch CCD image sensor is tucked away behind an 18x optical zoom lens (24-432mm), built by Schneider KREUZNACH, and employs Dual OIS and DIS image stabilization technology in order to provide users with steady shots in challenging situations.

In addition, the WB700 is equipped with manual control and the ability to record Full HD 1080p high definition video in the H.264 format, a new zoom noise reduction algorithm being added to actively cancel the sound of the optical lens going back and forth.

Although this is an improvement when compared with the 720p-limited WB650, geotagging support hasn't been ported from the previous model.

However, features like RAW capture and smart auto mode have been kept, this also being the case with the various in-camera creative modes.

“We understand that many of our customers come to us for the very best and most up-to-date technology available, which is why we have chosen to bring all our innovation together in the WB700 for both the advanced and novice photographer, giving a balance of professional quality imaging and the kind of usability anyone can master,” said Mr. Hyunho Chung, executive vice president and head of the Digital Imaging Business, Samsung Electronics.

“On top of the core excellence of the WB700’s 16MP 24mm lens with OIS and Schneider KREUZNACH 18x super-zoom, we have added features that bring surprise and delight to the photography experience, such as our new smart filters, the smart lens effect and zoom noise cancellation,” continued Mr. Chung.

According to the manufacturer, the WB700 camera will be launched in April for $299.99.
