Samsung Electronics UK Ltd. announced its Samsung Tocco Ultra Edition mobile phone, which will become the company's flagship handset for 2009. The device is the first full touch phone in the world, while also including a slide-out 3×4 keypad.

The new handset is expected to see the same popularity as the previous Tocco model, which proved quite successful last year. At the same time, the Korean mobile phone maker states that the Tocco Ultra Edition comes with new features compared to the older version, and is meant to open gates to new market segments, while also strengthening the company's position in the Touch, Style and Slide categories.

Samsung notes that the new Tocco Ultra Edition is meant to benefit from the momentum registered by Tocco, which proved to be the best-selling contract device in the UK during the second half of last year. The new handset comes with a vivid 2.8-inch, Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED) full touch screen, haptic feedback, an 8-megapixel camera with dual power LED flash and smile shot mode, GPS navigation, as well as high-speed Internet access with HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, Bluetooth v2.1 and USB 2.0 connectivity and microSDHC card slot.

According to the maker, the new Tocco Ultra Edition comes with new features, combining ease of use, a visually stunning, full touch screen, as well as the familiar and convenient 3×4 keypad, all meant to leverage the user experience. At the same time, the new handset has been developed using the company's long heritage and experience in slider phones, and comes as the latest device to be added to Samsung's Ultra Edition range, which was first introduced back in 2006.

The company also states that the Tocco Ultra Edition will include its recent developments and successes in the touch screen market. Examples like Samsung Tocco, Samsung Omnia and Samsung Pixon are meant to demonstrate the company's advancements in the area. The new Samsung Tocco Ultra Edition will allow users to control the device as easy as possible, in an instinctive manner, transforming the browsing through its menus, flicking through photos or navigating through maps into a pleasant experience. The phone comes with an upgraded TouchWiz user interface, which will be able to enhance the browsing experience even more.

“The introduction of the stunning Tocco Ultra Edition gives us the opportunity to build on the popularity and huge success that Samsung and our customers enjoyed with Tocco. After the monumental achievements in 2008 we’re looking forward to the Tocco Ultra Edition driving our business forward and showcasing our leading credentials for style and innovation,” stated Mark Mitchinson, vice-president, Samsung Mobile.
