Samsung recently introduced the J1 mid-range Android smartphone, but rumors claimed at the time of launch that the South Korean company might release a different version of the Galaxy J1 soon.

Today, the handset maker announced no less than three new Android smartphones that are slightly improved versions of handsets launched in the last couple of months in India.

Samsung Galaxy J1 4G, Galaxy Core Prime 4G and Galaxy Grand Prime 4G have been officially introduced in India and will go on sale in the country in the second week of March.

The smartphones’ price will start at Rs 9,990 ($160 / €140), but more details will be provided closer to release. The announcement was made during Samsung Forum 2015 event in Bangkok, but it’s unclear whether or not these three handsets will made it outside India.

Unlike the very low-specced Galaxy J1 that was introduced in late January packing 3G support and 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, the 4G version features better data connectivity and a 1.2GHz quad-core processor inside.

Also, the smartphone has 768MB of RAM, as opposed to the low version that packs only 512MB of RAM. The rest of the features are similar to that of the 3G Galaxy J1.

India’s 4G network coverage has improved in the last couple of years

The same goes for the other two smartphones, Galaxy Core Prime and Galaxy Grand Prime, which both come with 4G support, unlike their 3G counterparts.

It’s also worth mentioning all three smartphones announced by Samsung today offer dual-SIM support and microSD card slot for memory expansion. They also come with Android 4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box and will likely remain on this version.

“Samsung Electronics is poised to drive the next step of Smartphone evolution by offering a comprehensive portfolio of quality 4G LTE-enabled devices and propel the next wave of business and economic growth,” said Asim Warsi, vice president – Marketing, Mobile & IT at Samsung India.
