Korean mobile phone maker Samsung seems determined to make a name for itself in the Android segment of the market, as it has recently announced the release of its Samsung i7500 handset powered by the platform, and is now reported to have two other devices bearing Google's operating system in the works, namely the Samsung Spica and BigFoot.

Both mobile phones are expected to come to the market with the next version of the Android platform, 2.0, which is codenamed Donut, at least this is what some leaked details that surfaced on mobile-review show. At the same time, it seems that the mobile phone maker intends to release them on the market sometime in the third quarter of the year, most probably in September.

The Samsung Spica and BigFoot are different from one another only in size and shape, it seems, as the specification lists of both of them are almost identical. The handsets should come to the market with a 3.0-inch WQVGA AMOLED display, while including a 3-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus, 100MB of internal memory and a microSD memory card slot for additional storage space.

Moreover, they should come with Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, USB 2.0 port, Wi-Fi capabilities, GPS receiver, accelerometer and digital compass, as well as with support for GSM quad-band, HSDPA 900/1700/2100 frequencies. In addition, each of the handsets will include a 1500 mAh battery. As for their sizes, Samsung Spica should measure 111.5 x 52.6 x 12.9mm, while Samsung BigFoot 115.7 x 53 x 16.3mm.

According to the news, the Samsung Bigfoot should prove to be a gaming-oriented device, expected to head towards T-Mobile's lineup. At the same time, Spica should come as a rather affordable handset aimed at the mass market, while also expected to include Samsung’s own TouchWiz user interface. The screenshots below show a bit of the Spica's interface, so take a look at them to make an idea.

One more thing that should be added concerns the platform the two phones should come with, namely the Android 2.0 codenamed Donut, which is expected to bring significant improvements over previous iterations, though it seems that the update will not become available automatically for all the older phone versions, as the decision to update them will come either from the vendor's side or from the operator.
