Samsung has been doing more than just advocating in favor of green memory, and one of its latest acts involved the unveiling of the N350, what it dubs the world's first LTA-HSPA+ dual-mode netbook, meaning it can communicate with both 3G and 4G networks.

For ultraportable electronics, connectivity is very important, as it makes the difference between whether or not said device can be considered a viable traveling companion.

As such, most netbooks released nowadays have not only LAN and WiFi, but also 3G connectivity, leaving the base specs as the real definitive factor in its marketing appeal.

Samsung thought it would step outside of the norm for once, so it developed the N350, an entry-level mobile PC that, according to its maker, is the first in the world to classify as a LTE-HSPA+ dual-mode netbook.

In terms of hardware, the laptop utilizes the Intel Atom N550, the newest chip with two cores and a clock speed of 1.5GHz. This CPU is backed up by 1GB of DDR3 RAM.

The computer also has a hard disk drive of 250GB and, of course, the obligatory 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0.

Nevertheless, the LTE-HSPA+ remains the prime asset of this newcomer, as it allows the Internet connection to work at speeds on par, or close, to those of fixed Internet services.

Basically, the N350 has both the benefits of 3G as well as 4G technologies and, thus, can communicate with both types of networks.

"IFA is a tremendous platform for Samsung to launch its newest innovations. The products we are launching at the event truly demonstrate Samsung's commitment to delivering the finest in technology with optimum designs to meet the demands of every lifestyle," said Seongwoo Nam, Executive Vice President and Head of IT Solutions Business at Samsung Electronics.

"Recognizing the future of wireless network technology, Samsung created a netbook that is both LTE and HSPA+ equipped. This world first shows that Samsung is relentless in its pursuit of the best technologies so that our customers can have the highest quality user experiences. It gives us great pleasure to usher in a new era in mobile computing technology," he added.

The N350 will have a battery life of up to 6.7 hours and a price of 429 Euro ($553) once it launches in Germany, this autumn.
