14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung has just rolled out the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge this month, but the company is not taking a break after the grand launch.
On the contrary, sources familiar with the matter reveal that Samsung has already started work on the successor of the Galaxy S6 flagship.
We have been hearing rumors that Samsung will be ready to reveal a foldable phone as soon as 2016, and naturally, we assume the Galaxy S7 will be it.
Now, a report coming from the company’s home country claims that Samsung Display was expected to invest into expanding its A3 factory (which focuses on manufacturing flexible panels) as soon as this month. However, due to some internal structure rearrangements, the investments have been postponed.
Samsung Galaxy S7 will take advantage of some serious innovation
It appears Samsung will be putting a great deal of emphasis on the flexible panels this year, if it manages to overcome some of the production issues it is currently facing.
Flexible OLED panels use polymide (PI) instead of a glass base, which in turn bestows flexibility and resilience. But working with polymide is not an easy task, as the material doesn’t respond well to high temperatures. So that’s why Samsung was looking to invest in the A3 factory, hoping to find ways to increase production of such panels.
But even if things have hit a rough patch, an anonymous source explains that the expanding will happen sooner or later. The reason behind this claim is that Samsung apparently already requested 8 million flexible panels a month from Samsung Display, which will be used in the production of the upcoming flagship.
Earlier today, we showed you a Samsung Galaxy S7 concept which eliminates bezels almost completely. But by the look of things, design innovations related to Samsung’s future flagship won’t have to do only with making bezels invisible but also with implementing flexible displays.
Like Apple, which is rumored to plan on launching not two but three iPhone models later this year, Samsung might also come to MWC 2016 equipped with a Galaxy S7, a Galaxy S7 Edge, and a flexible Galaxy S7.
