They have 16 GB and 32 GB capacities and 2,667 Mbps data transmission

G.Skill will reveal its DDR4 plans in about two weeks, but Samsung is doing one better, according to its latest press release.

That's right, Samsung is already mass producing DDR4 modules, all of them designed with 4 Gb chips made on the 20nm process technology.

The transmission rate is of 2,667 megabits per second (Mb/s), 1.25 times better than 20nm DDR3.

It might seem slow, especially when we have DDR3 that can reach 3 Gbps. But then you realize that this is a low-to-mid range DDR4 module, instead of a stupendously expensive high-end module.

There's another benefit too: power consumption is 30% lower than on DDR3.

Sadly, we won't get to use the new memory, since the 16 GB and 32 GB modules are made for servers, not consumers. We have to wait until 2014, or maybe one year on top of that.
