South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung is reportedly gearing up for the launch of a new version of the Galaxy S5 handset, one that might land on the market as Galaxy S5 Active.

The handset hasn’t been officially confirmed as of now, but a recent tweet coming from infamous tipster @evleaks claims that it will be launched with model number SM-G870x attached to it.

Moreover, the leaker claims that AT&T and Sprint are certain to receive it, but that other carriers will also add it to their offerings.

No info on what the smartphone might have to offer in terms of hardware specifications and features has been provided as of now, though the phone might prove to be a bit tougher than the original Galaxy S5, provided that Samsung goes the same route as with the Galaxy S4 Active last year.

However, this also makes us wonder what specific features it might have to include in this handset, given the fact that Samsung Galaxy S5 has already been announced with a dust- and water-resistant body.

Should Galaxy S5 Active indeed follow in the footsteps of its predecessor, we might also see it packing lower hardware specifications when compared to the Galaxy S5, and it also remains to be seen whether the device will indeed manage to prove successful.

No info on when the new model might become official has been provided as of now, or on the price tag it might feature when released. Stay tuned for more on the matter.
