South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics expects sales of its Galaxy S III flagship smartphone to top 30 million before the end of this year.

Samsung's IT and mobile unit chief, Shin Jong-kyun, has confirmed the forecast today, only one week after the smartphone was announced to have passed the 20 million sold units mark.

At the same time, the company said that it was expecting sales of its newly unveiled Galaxy Note 2 phablet to surpass 20 million, outpacing the original Galaxy Note 2 to 1.

Galaxy S III has been available for purchase in white and blue in various markets around the world since May, and is seeing new color flavors released globally.

At the moment, Galaxy S III is seen as the best smartphone on the market, though it could face significant challenges from Apple’s iPhone 5 model, expected to be unveiled today.
